Key features of Mino Washi:
Made from natural fibres, typically from the kozo (mulberry) plant
Extremely strong and lightweight, with a soft, natural texture.
Durable and flexible, making it ideal for calligraphy, printmaking, stationery, and even interior design (like shoji screens).
Known for its translucency and subtle beauty—perfect for fine crafts and writing paper.
Cultural significance
Mino Washi is UNESCO-listed as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity (since 2014), along with other washi traditions from Japan. It’s celebrated not only for its craftsmanship but also for the deep connection between the materials, the makers, and the local environment.
