Craft Tours in Japan

Looking for a Craft tour in Japan?

Are you looking for a short tour when you're going to Japan? I'm working with our partners in Kobe to create short tours (half day - full day) to show visitors the makers, artisans, and factories in the area of Kobe, Osaka, and Kyoto areas. To show you the places that are hard to find if you're not local.
If you're interested, can you add your name here? It's still in the research stage. We'll keep you updated and will invite opinions about your travel preferences.

Washi Paper factory tour & workshop (requires 10 people for the workshop)

Want to discover the fascinating process of washi paper making by touring the factory and joining a workshop? If you would like to  see one of the uniquely Japanese paper making techniques first hand, we have found a factory to visit.

Maruyama Senko, outside of Kyoto produces traditional Yuzen washi paper (Chiyogami), with some designs displayed here. This method of resist dyeing was developed in the 17th century and is prized for its vibrant colour, durability, and decorative beauty. You will recognise this patterned, colourful paper in Japanese stationery, tea cannisters, journals and as origami paper.

It is used for:

  • Origami and paper craft (for its strength and flexibility)

  • Gift wrapping and luxury packaging

  • Stationery — cards, envelopes, notebooks, and letter sets

  • Interior decoration — lamp shades, framed art, or washi panels

  • Bookbinding and collage in fine art and design projects

The tour can be followed by a workshop (we need 10 people to book a workshop).

If you're interested in visiting, please get in touch and let me know your dates in Japan and we can book you in.
