Cohana Sakura 2020 Limited Edition - Magewappa Toolbox + Embroidery Hoop
This is a Limited Edition release of the embroiderer's toolbox - the Magewappa toolbox - featuring the colours of Cherry Blossoms in Spring
The Magewappa (a box made by bending wood) and embroidery hoop are both forged by hand out of thinly-shaved Japanese cedar and hinoki cypress.
The skill of the artisan is demonstrated in curving the wood perfectly to form an even rounded hoop.
Kawaguchi, for the Cohana range have combined this Magewappa and Embroidery Hoop together to form a beautiful wood grain toolbox for needleworkers. The toolbox includes a removable embroidery hoop wrapped around the lid. The lid features real thread in a cross-stitch design to add delightful detailing.
The "Magewappas" were created by Mockats, an artisan who converted to a "wappa" craftsman from a furniture craftsman in order to better promote the quality of Tottori Prefecture's Chizu cedar. Mockats studied under a teacher from Akita Prefecture, the birthplace of the "Magewappa" craft, and maintains the traditional methods of production.
