A "Magewappa" (box made by bending wood) and "Embrodery Hoop" bent and made by hand one by one out of thinly-shaved Japanese cedar and hinoki cypress.
The handicraft of the artisan, pliability of the wood, and perfectly staright wood grain together make for a beautiful wooden curve.
Kawaguchi, for the Cohana range have combined this "Magewappa" and "Embroidery Hoop" together to form a beautiful wood grain toolbox for needleworkers. The toolbox includes a removable embroidery hoop wrapped around the lid. The lid features real thread in a cross-stitch design to add delightful detailing.
The "Magewappas" were created by Mockats, an artisan who converted to a "wappa" craftsman from a furniture craftsman in order to better promote the quality of Tottori Prefecture's Chizu cedar. Mockats studied under a teacher from Akita Prefecture, the birthplace of the "Magewappa" craft, and maintains the traditional methods of production.
The Toolbox with embroidery hoop comes in two sizes: 12cm and 15cm. The colours of the flower cross-stitch design on the lid are available in the warm-coloured "Coharu" in yellow and pink and the cool-coloured "Aoi" featuring the Cohana blue and green shades.
