At Kamakura’s Tokeji Temple, 130 plum trees are in full bloom every March. Until Year 35 of the Meiji Era (1902), the temple, also known as Enkiri Temple or Kakekomi Temple, was the salvation of many abused women, operating as a nunnery where men were forbidden.
