The Odamaki is a square shaped spool used for winding spun yarn since ancient times.

Cohana’s spool is a tiny Odamaki made in brass by Takatsuji Seisakusho in Takaoka City, Toyama Prefecture. This city is known as a casting town where brass casting technique, known as Takaoka copperware, has been handed down from one generation of craftsmen to the next.
This technique is usually applied to making small Buddhist altars for homes. The brass is finished in the smoothly honed surface of darkened metal.

This tiny recreation of an Odamaki spool is wrapped in a glossy white or black thread.  There is a small notch at the top and your favourite thread can be wound onto the spool.

The spool can also be used as a small tool rest for dressmaking pencils and pins making the crafting experience a pleasure to enjoy.
